I have been given this product as a part of a product review through Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.
Today's post is mainly one for my fellow spoonies out there but also for anyone who just wants a decent nights sleep! I've struggled with sleeping for years and it's gotten even worse since my health declined further a few years back. Some nights I simply cannot fall asleep but other nights it is definitely pain and being uncomfortable that is keeping me awake so when the opportunity arose to try out a product that could potentially help with that I grabbed it with both hands.
The N:Rem Sleep System aims to aid you in getting a better and more comfortable nights sleep by using a variety of different foam mattress toppers/tablets that all have different densities (firm, medium, soft and super soft). They are designed to fit together to fill the full length of a single bed or one side of a double bed (and larger) to create a personalised surface. You can switch the different tablets around to suit you and your body and they even come with some suggestions from N:Rem about how to order them for different problems such as back pain or hip pain. In theory you'd use the softer tablets for painful areas and the firmer tablets for areas where you need a bit more support but you are free to order them however you like to work with your body best.
I've been using these for over a month now and have switched up the order of the tablets a few times to see how they could best benefit me. I first followed the pattern that it recommended for lower back pain but felt that I needed firmer support so swapped a few of the tablets around and found I was a lot more comfortable, it really is about trial and error with these. I get a lot of hip pain and also have a hip replacement so I used one of the super soft tablets under my hips and found that helped me a lot, especially when I was laying on my side. I did find that in general I certainly was comfier during the night but I think ideally I would have needed 2 of the firm tablets instead of 1 so they covered the whole length of my back to give me the maximum support I require, I'm used to having a firm mattress.
I think what also aided me in having a more comfortable night's sleep was that the tablets kept me warm and I think I fell asleep a lot quicker than usual thanks to this. I did worry that the tablets would move around during the night but they really do stay put, you put them under your sheet and once they are there they don't budge. On the other side though it is also really easy to switch around the order of the tablets! These are quite pricey and are definitely an investment but if you are struggling with pain keeping you awake at night it might be something to look into, they do offer a 30 day trial period!
The only thing that lets these down for me is that I do really need very firm support under my back so without a second firm tablet I've not been able to use them as much as I'd like to but I do find myself in a different position to most where I have a lot of metalwork on my spine. Overall I think they are great idea for spoonies and anyone else who finds they often have an uncomfortable nights sleep!
