2014: Favourite Book, Film + TV Show

It is safe to say that over this past year I've had a lot of free time which has meant that I've worked my way through quite a few books, films and way too many addictive TV shows. I've had a post like this planned for a few weeks now as I love nothing more than to talk about things like this, especially when it comes to my favourite TV shows. So it was a bit of a coincidence when I found out about a little competition that Currys were holding for bloggers, I usually don't enter these kinds of competitions but seeing as I was doing this post anyway I thought I might as well, perhaps the new year will bring me a little extra luck! If you want to enter yourself before it closes tonight then you can do so by hopping on over to the Curry's techtalk website.
Favourite book | The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
I've read quite a few books this year so I figured I'd let my favourite be whatever comes to mind first which would probably be a book that has stuck in mind. I thought it might have been The Fault In Our Stars but actually this book stood out to me. It didn't come out in 2014, I was just very late to the party, I'm glad I spotted it in a shop a little while ago though as it is such a good read. I knew I'd enjoy it as I love stories like this but I didn't realise quite how much I would like it. I found myself getting very hooked onto the story and I read it pretty quickly, I think in 2 sittings if I remember rightly. It's a beautiful and very sad story and definitely worth a read, perhaps if your new years resolution is to read more you could start with this, you won't be disappointed.
Favourite Film | Gravity
Again I've seen so many good films this year but Gravity stays in my mind, when I first saw the advert for it I immediately wanted to go and see it. I love films that are based in space nearly as much as I like apocalyptic style films. I do regret not going to see it in the cinema as I think it would have been amazing on a big screen, it's definitely still worth a watch though. It will have you sitting on the edge of your seat at some points and I was personally really happy with the ending, I won't give too much away though! I think The Hunger Games films would have to come in at a close second but Gravity just about beats them this time.
Favourite TV Show | Sherlock
This was definitely an easy one to pick! I have 3 all time favourite shows (Doctor Who, Casualty and this) so picking was so easy, especially since I've been particularly obsessed with this one show recently. I was definitely very late to the party on this one although I'm happy about that as I didn't have to wait 2 years to find out how Sherlock faked his death, still got a long wait until Series 4 though! If you haven't watched Sherlock already I'd really recommend it, it had me hooked from about 10 minutes in. Bit of a warning, if you get attached to TV shows you will get attached to this very easily! I've been re-watching episodes all the time at the moment and as you can see if I even picked up the casebook which goes into more detail about the cases that Sherlock and John solve. You can catch up on the episodes on Amazon Prime, I think Netflix as well but I'm not 100% sure!
That's my top favourites for 2014, I wonder what 2015 will bring in the means of entertainment!

I'd love to know what your favourite book, film or TV show is at the moment!

  2. Ooh Sherlock is my favourite TV show too (besides Emmerdale/Coronation Street haha) and I can't wait for the next series either! I loved the film of The Lovely Bones but after reading this I definitely need to pick up the book :)
    Happy New Year!

    1. I don't know how I'm going to be able to wait for the next series haha! Looks like we won't even get the special until Christmas this year, will just have to keep re-watching the 3 available series'. I'm definitely going to be watching the film version of The Lovely Bones now x
