Makeup Revolution Death By Chocolate Palette | Review

Two things that I really love are chocolate and makeup so I was pretty happy when I saw that one of my favourite brands Makeup Revolution had brought the two together. The high end brand Too Faced have done this before and this new palette is an obvious copy of it but I don't have £45 to spend on eyeshadow so I welcome this cheap dupe with open arms!

This new palette is not from the main range, you might have seen by now that Makeup Revolution have launched I Heart Makeup which appears to be more suited towards younger makeup lovers. The packaging is a bit bolder with some of the palettes featuring words like selfie and makeup geek. The prices are still low, the products seem to be that little more fun though. This eyeshadow palette is definitely fun, the packaging resembles a melting chocolate bar, similar but not the same as Too Faced's offering. It is made out of a shiny plastic but it is sturdy and I can't see it breaking any time soon if at all. The exterior is certainly different from that of other companies such as Rimmel and Revlon, it stands out which I like and I really like the fun element of it, it is definitely a palette that people will be asking you about! There are two chocolate palettes in the line, this one and the other one called 'I Heart Chocolate' which features more greens and blues, the tones are generally more earthy so if the shades in this palette aren't appealing take a look at the other version!

Inside the palette there is a well sized mirror which is perfect for travel or if you are on the go, it's well protected by the bulky chocolate packaging on the outside as well. This palette holds 16 neutral eyeshadows with the shades being a combination of mattes and shimmers. The eyeshadows are mainly golds, silvers or browns but there are a few more colourful tones in there like the deep purple and muted pink.

1ST ROW: White Light | Don't Let Go | Break Me Up | Consume Me | All is Lost

2ND ROW: Lick Me | Fool's Gold | One More Bar | Devour Me | Tear the Wrapper | Love You to Death

3RD ROW: Pray for Me | Dipped | Tease Me | Set Me Free | Bring Down Angels

I found that all the shades are really well pigmented for a high street brand with the exception of maybe White Light and Lick Me, two of the lightest shades.I thought it would be the matte shades that let this palette down as that has been my experience in the past with cheaper eyeshadows but they are actually really nice. Of course there are better pigmented shadows out there but for £7.99 I'm more than impressed with the quality presented in this palette. With a primer most of the shades lasted nearly all day, without a primer though there were definite sides of fading by the afternoon. However this doesn't bother me as I always use a primer with eyeshadow. I can't really give a great opinion about whether they crease or not as most eyeshadows crease on me due to my eye shape!

My favourite shades in this palette are Don't Let Me Go, Dipped and Bring Down Angels. Together I think they create a really wearable everyday look with a little extra shimmer. You can create a variety of day and night looks with this palette easily, making it perfect for travel as I said earlier.

Overall for £7.99 this is a fun palette that is definitely worth taking a look at!

Have you tried anything from Makeup Revolution yet?

Thanks for reading,
Shona x

  4. The lid of the palette is so awesome! It's cool for a neutral palette to have those purples/pinks!

  5. I wasn't too impressed with this till I got to your words and saw the price. For $7.99, that is absolutely a great palette. It definitely isn't as good as the higher end shadows - but on a budget, they seem nicely blendable and pretty pigmented.

    Great review :)

    1. Completely agree, I wouldn't put it above a brand like Urban Decay when it comes to quality but that doesn't make it a bad product, for the price it is better than expected! xx

  7. I forewent buying this in favor of the Iconics and Romantic Smoke palettes. All is Lost looks absolutely pigmented. I know it comes off as super black in the picture, but does it really get that genuine black colour with just a few swipes of your finger? The black eyeshadows I have in my collection looked watered-down blacks, so I'm looking for a really good black colour. Will be watching Makeup Revolution for another Free Shipping Weekends and will be getting this palette then. Thanks for the review! :)

    1. It really does come out that black, I wouldn't say it is the blackest black I've used but for a highstreet brand it is pretty good :) x

  8. I have the I love chocolate palette (dupe for Too Faced Chocolate Bar) and I really love that palette, it is my HG palette! Have you seen the new MUR Icnoic pro 1 and 2 palettes? They are the dupe for the Lorac pro 1 and 2 so I hope you will review them or just get your hands on them because they are looking SOOO good.

    P.S. I really liked your swatches :)
