My Scoliosis/Surgery Recovery | Another Operation?

This is definitely a post that I didn't think I would be writing! Yesterday there was a big mess up with my appointment to see my surgeon about talking about treatment for my dural ectasia but now it turns out I won't be needing that appointment. After thinking that my pain has been caused by DE it now turns out that one of the screws in my back is either very close to a nerve or it is actually touching it. The only way to treat that is to have another operation to remove the screw so I'm being put on the waiting list next week and I should hopefully be having the operation by the end of the year, they can make you wait up to 18 weeks unfortunately.

I am of course over the moon that there is something they can do that will hopefully help get rid of my pain or at least help ease it. It's weird though because I'm more worried about having this operation, even though I've already had an operation before and this one will only be a small one. It's nice to finally be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel though.

School wise I definitely know now that I won't be able to return in September to Sixth Form because the chances of me having had the operation and being fully recovered by then are very slim. You can do your A Levels at any age though so I guess that isn't a massive deal!

Again as always I have to say thank you to you all, your continuous support overwhelms me and it makes a big difference!

Thanks for reading,
Shona x

    1. I know, we've said we can come in at short notice if there is a cancellation though so fingers crossed! Exactly, I'm looking forward to getting my life back! x

  4. I'm so pleased to hear that it might not be DE and hopefully when they remove the screw it will at least help ease the pain if not get rid of it completely. I know you're disappointed about not being able to go back to sixth form for a while but like I said on Twitter you can go back at any time, just get better first :) xx

    1. Same, we know the DE is there but it isn't causing the pain at the moment, I just worry about if it will cause pain in the future. I'm definitely feeling better about the whole education thing now, looks like I'll probably be taking another year out to get back to my normal health and then I'll be going to a college instead of my Sixth Form as they are just useless! xx

    1. That's exciting that you'll be starting sixth form! I went for a few months before my operation but I've had to leave school now and I'll be starting a college course next year instead :) I really hope things go well for you in the future! It is really nice to talk to others in the same boat, feel free to email me at any time if you want to chat about it, shonacobb21@gmail.com xxx

  7. I'm glad you finally have a solution to the pain! It's a shame about the A-levels but like you say there isn't a window that they have to be done within so there will be plenty of chance for you to do them! xx
