NEW MUA Matte Lipsticks | Review + Swatches

For nearly a week now I've been trying out MUA's new shades of their matte lipsticks and nail polishes. I did a bit of an introduction post last Sunday featuring them but now I've been using the products I can do a review for you all. Today I'm focusing just on the new lipstick shades, I've been wearing them everyday since the package came through my letterbox.

MUA's matte lipsticks have been out for a while now but surprisingly this is the first time I've tried them! They are the same price as the other lipsticks, £1, which I'm happy about as them being matte shouldn't make them more expensive in my opinion so I'm very glad that they are the same inexpensive price. The packaging is different though, the matte lipsticks stand out from the rest as they are white, which I quite like, it certainly makes it easier to distinguish between the 2 finishes when going through your lipstick collection.

Just like the other lipsticks they have a little pot of the product at the bottom of the packaging, in the same shade as the lipstick of course. I've personally never seen the point of it myself but I suppose you could use that with a lip brush once the lipstick has run out. It is a nice way to see what colour the lipstick is though, saves you opening lots of lipsticks to find the colour you want.

There are 2 new additions to the matte lipsticks range, taking the range from 5 to 7 shades. The other shades that are available never completely appealed to me, they caught my eye every now and then but never enough for me to buy one or two. These 2 shades really do appeal to me though!

Despite me saying in my introduction post that I didn't think this dark nude colour Fawn Fancy* would suit me it has actually turned out to be my favourite shade out of the 2. It's a dark tan nude shade that is nearly completely matte, it does give off a little shine but I like that. It's a very simple colour and I like that it still lets  a bit of the pink in my lips shine through. These lipsticks aren't the most pigmented I've come across but for the price they exceed my expectations and I like that they aren't really heavy, a problem I have with some matte lip products.

Lilac Belle* is very different, it's a light lilac-pink that sheers out a little on my lips. It's still quite pigmented but it doesn't come out quite as opaque as I had expected. Although again, I like this as at first it did look a little scary as I'm so used to wearing more toned down pink shades. Like Fawn Fancy is isn't 100% matte but it is close enough for me.

Both shades feel soft on my lips and don't highlight any dry patches, I was quite surprised at how nice they felt on my lips. These lasted for about 3 hours on my lips which I think is quite good for a £1 lipstick. To me these are great for those who want to try out matte lipsticks, or anyone on a tight budget. They are inexpensive, pigmented and most importantly matte. They get the thumbs up from me!

  1. I really love MUA lipsticks because they have so many pretty colours and it's really cheap! Unfortunately, my natural lip colour is quite dark and these colours don't seem to appear on my lips. I bought 3 of them the last time and I couldn't see any colour appearing! :'( I really love the Lilac Belle on you, really pretty and sweet :)

  5. These colours look great, I haven't come across this brand before so thanks for reviewing it. I love a matt finish for the day time as its easy to pair with the rest of my make up. I prefer a high gloss finish for evenings :-) Helen x

    1. I'm a fan of a finish between matte and gloss, don't like anything too glossy but don't wearing matte lip colours regularly either. I will be wearing these a lot this summer though! x
