Real Techniques Duo Fibre Brush Set // Review

When it comes to makeup brushes one brand always springs to mind, Real Techniques. I used to think of brands such as MAC and Sigma but since Real Techniques have come along I haven't even considered buying from more expensive brands, or any other brand thinking about it! Their brushes are so high quality for such a low price, they really are such a joy to use, nearly all of my brushes are RT! So when the limited edition duo fibre brushes came out and everyone started raving about them I had no reason to believe that they wouldn't be any less than amazing. Unfortunately I haven't had a great experience with these like others have!

Firstly the set doesn't come in the usual packaging which I found rather disappointing to be honest. Usually the brush sets come in a brush holder which is really handy for travelling and it also turns into a stand which is great for drying your brushes. It was a shame that they didn't have the same packaging but I can see where RT are coming from, trying to make them stand out as they are limited edition and changing the packaging is one way to do so.

You get 3 brushes in the set: a face brush, a contour brush and an eye brush. It appeared to be the perfect little set, the brushes looked really appealing. When I first felt them as well they felt really soft and pleasing, this didn't last though. I found the brushes to be quite scratchy, especially the eye brush. I tried using the smallest brush for blending concealer under my eyes but it was so uncomfortable to do so that I just gave up in the end. The larger brushes aren't as bad but they still aren't as soft as they first appeared. I thought that washing them would soften them a little but that didn't work at all.

I really am quite disappointed with this set as the quality of RT brushes is usually so good! Whilst these aren't the worst brushes in the world they certainly aren't worth £24.

  1. I've been so undecided whether to buy these brushes or not and so far all the reviews have been like yours or there just average. I've got majority of the other face RT brushes but I only really want the face duo-fibre one but I might give it a miss now. Great review thanks.

    1. At best they are average! I really don't think it is worth the money, spend the money on the eye brush set instead! x

  5. I was thinking about getting this set and I am so glad I read your review first. I have very sensitive skin and scratchy brushes are something I don't need! Will invest my money on some other brushes instead.

  7. I've been undecided about these for a while, I think I've decided not to get them! They do look really good though, shame they don't live up to the original RT quality.

  8. I really like these brushes for powder blushes, bronzers and loose powder as they don't apply too much product they do take a little getting used to as they are soo different to the core collection.

  9. Completely agree with Jenny's comment! I thought about getting them as they're limited edition and all but seeing as the reviews aren't that great I'm not sure if it's really worth it. I'm still tempted to buy them for the sake of the white handles which is beyond stupid and I'm aware of that haha. But your review really helped not giving in to the hype xx

  10. I wanted to get these as soon as they came out, but when I seen them in Boots something told me not to get them. Seeing reviews a few days later I was glad I didn't buy them. Such a shame because I love RT! It's weird that they don't come with a holder too because they aren't stand up brushes like the Expert Face Brush or the Stippling Brush etc...

  11. I'm so glad you thought the brushes were scratchy too. The eye brush is the worst! I am so surprised as RT are usually such high quality, so I don't know how these have managed to pass for RT standard! So disappointing. x
