Which highstreet/drugstore brand does it best? #1

Not too long ago Islay did this very post and I loved the concept, I'm so glad she said that others were welcome to join in! I'm all for drugstore/high street products and I'd say 90% of my collection is all high street products! Maybe I'll do a similar post but talking about my least favourite high street products?

I'm going to be doing this post in two parts, this part is all face products and then the next part will be nails, eyes and lips!

This one was difficult for me because neither of these two exactly suit my skintone! I love the formulation of them both though and I think they are basically on par with each other. They both glide on well and sit on my skin nicely but they do cling to dry patches a bit, no matter how much I exfoliate and moisturise before they still find somewhere to cling to awkwardly! They both last nearly all day, about 8 hours I'd say with a powder on top. I don't wear foundation everyday in fact I hardly ever wear it but if I had to pick then these two would win!

*I did also like the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation but its way too dark!*

Powder wise the Rimmel Stay Matte wins it for me. I have it in translucent and the shade is fine for my skin. I prefer a matte finish and this achieves it, it also locks in my makeup so it stays on for longer. The runner up is the ELF Complexion Perfection Powder, this doesn't give a matte finish but it does control redness moderately and any other discolouration. Its not a miracle worker but it does help.

For concealer hands down it has to be the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. My is looking a bit worse for wear and its so nearly empty but I'm trying to hold out for the next 2 weeks until my ban ends! This only costs £4.19 but its high coverage and just brilliant in every way possible! I don't use any other concealers!

For blush I have to split this between two brands. Natural Collection was the first brand I ever tried and I've loved their blushes for at least 2 years now! My favourite shade is Peach Melba which is the one in the picture. I also really like LOOK Beauty's Blush's and this is the shade Pinch which is a gorgeous pink with shimmer in it and a tiny bit of glitter, just enough to flatter your face. The Natural Collection ones are only £1.99 and the LOOK Beauty ones are £5.

I had to split the blush category into 2 as I love cream blushes so much! The winner is definitely Revlon, the photoready cream blushes are just fantastic! I have the shade pinched and its a coral orange toned shade and I really love it on my cheeks. The runner up is MUA and I have their £2 cream blusher in Yummy. This truly are fab blushes, really bendable but still pigmented and they last nearly all day on me. One thing that I love is that they don't cling to any dry patches as well!

I have been loving highlighter recently and I have many favourites but the one I keep on going back to is the ELF Blush in Gotta Glow. I've had this for a good year and a half now after getting it in a swap and I just love it! Its the perfect highlighter for me, I love it so much I didn't have a need to pick a runner up!

Why don't you let me know what drugstore brands you'd pick in the comments?

Thanks for reading,
Shona x

Disclaimer: All products were purchased by moi apart from the LOOK beauty blush which was sent to me for review consideration but this does not sway my opinion, I am always 100% honest with my followers!

  1. Lovely post :) I think my favourite highstreet brands are Rimmel, Barry M and MUA! I use so many of their products haha! By the way, I don't know if you know this, but the Max Factor Xperience foundation is exactly the same as the Covergirl one you mentioned :) Just incase you wanted to repurchase it in the UK! xx

    1. :) Thanks! I love all 3, Rimmel have become a very firm favourite of mine recently, I've been floating away from barry m a bit though!

I've heard that max factor is exactly the same as covergirl, I've always found max factor to be a bit expensive for a drugstore brand though xx
